Customer Support

What the Intercom connector can do

Intercom provides live chat, messaging, and support tools that businesses use to talk with customers. In type.com, an Intercom connection lets Claude route conversations to the right admin or team, tag contacts, archive stale ones, add subscription preferences, and associate contacts with their companies. Support and success teams make these changes from a thread where everyone sees what was done.

One connection, many Spaces

Connect Intercom once, then decide which Spaces can use it in threads, skills, automations, and coding work.

What teams do with Intercom in type.com

Route a conversation

Assign an incoming conversation to the right admin or team, for instance sending billing questions to finance support, and note the reason in the thread.

Try asking
Assign Intercom conversation 21877 to the Billing team and note why in this thread.

Tag customers for follow-up

Add a tag to a set of contacts after a product issue, so the team can reach out to exactly those people later.

Try asking
Add the tag 'export-bug-oct' to these 14 Intercom contacts who reported the CSV export problem.

Tidy contact records

Attach contacts to their company and archive old or duplicate records, keeping Intercom data clean for reporting, targeting, and account views.

Try asking
Attach contact jen@fieldcrest.com to the Fieldcrest company in Intercom, and archive the duplicate contact for her.

FAQ

Questions people ask before connecting Intercom

Can Claude assign Intercom conversations?

Yes. With Intercom connected to a type.com Space, Claude can assign conversations, tag and archive contacts, add subscriptions, and attach contacts to companies. Support leads see each change in the thread.

How do I authenticate Intercom?

Intercom uses a workspace access token from a private app. An admin adds it once to the type.com connection as a bearer token and shares it with chosen Spaces.

Who can change Intercom data through the agent?

Only people in Spaces that the Intercom connection is shared with. Admins pick those Spaces, so routing and contact changes stay with your support team.

Is this the same as an MCP server for Intercom?

Not exactly. type.com uses connectors and connections to give selected Spaces access to approved app tools and data. Some connectors use hosted MCP, while others use OAuth, API keys, service accounts, or custom APIs.
